“Do I need a full website, or is one page enough?” It’s one of the first questions new clients ask us, and the honest answer is: it depends on what you sell and how people look for it. Here’s how to decide in a few minutes.
What is a landing page?
A landing page is a single page built around one goal: getting the visitor to contact you, book or buy. Everything sits on one scrolling page: what you do, who it’s for, photos of your work, prices or packages, reviews, and a big button to call, text or WhatsApp you. No menus that lead nowhere and nothing to dig through.
What is a full website?
A full website has several pages, each with its own job: a home page, one page per main service, an about page, a gallery or portfolio, a contact page, and sometimes town pages, an FAQ or a blog. It gives customers more to explore and gives Google more to show in search results.
Side by side
| Landing page | Full website | |
|---|---|---|
| Pages | One | Several (usually 5 to 10 to start) |
| Starting price at Cipher | $249 | Written quote |
| Time to launch | Fastest | Longer |
| Shows up on Google for | Your name and your main service | Each service, and the towns you serve |
| Best with ads and QR codes | Excellent: one offer, no distractions | Good, if you send people to the right page |
| Room to grow | Can become the home page later | Add pages, a blog or a store anytime |
Choose a landing page if...
- You’re just starting and need to look professional online fast.
- You sell one main service or one main offer.
- You run Instagram or Facebook ads, or hand out flyers, and need one link or QR code.
- Today your only online presence is a social media profile.
- You want to test an idea before investing in a bigger site.
Choose a full website if...
- You offer several services that people search for separately, like “kitchen remodeling” and “bathroom remodeling.”
- You want to show up on Google in several towns, not just the one you’re in.
- Customers need a lot of information before they buy, like with contractors, medical offices or legal services.
- You have plenty of work to show: projects, menus, products, events.
- You want to publish news, tips or guides over time.
Why more pages usually means more Google traffic
Google ranks pages, not whole websites. Every page can focus on one topic: “office cleaning,” “move-out cleaning,” “cleaning in Paterson.” A single page that tries to cover everything rarely ranks well for anything specific. That’s why a cleaning company with a page per service and per area usually gets more search traffic than one with a single page, even if the design is the same.
A landing page still shows up for your business name and, with a strong Google Business Profile, for your main service near you. It just has less to work with when it comes to the long list of things people search.
The smart path: start with a landing page, grow into a website
Many of our clients start with a landing page, collect their first reviews and customers, and add pages when the business is ready. We build every landing page so it can grow without starting over: it simply becomes the home page of the full website.
Count how many different things customers type into Google to find a business like yours. One or two? Start with a landing page. Three or more? A full website will pay for itself faster.
Quick answers
Can a landing page rank on Google?
Yes, for your business name and your main service in your area, especially with a strong Google Business Profile behind it. To show up for many services or many towns, you need more pages.
Can I upgrade a landing page to a full website later?
Yes. We design landing pages so they can become the home page of a larger site, so nothing is wasted.
Which is better for Instagram or Facebook ads?
A landing page focused on that one offer usually works best, because there’s nothing to distract people from contacting you.
How much does each one cost?
Our landing pages start at $249. Full websites get a written quote based on pages and features. Our guide on what a website costs in New Jersey covers typical prices.
